Every row carries the publisher and URL of its primary source, and a
caveat column where one applies. Please keep those columns when you
reuse or republish — a number separated from its caveat is how accurate
data produces inaccurate reporting.

An empty cell means the original source did not report that value. It
does NOT mean zero. Nothing in these files has been estimated,
interpolated, or carried over from another release.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

Funding:
  * Branches of the same party are consolidated, because the disclosure threshold applies per branch — a donor can give just under it to each of a party's branches separately. Transfers between a party's own branches are themselves disclosed receipts, so the attributable figure is an upper bound.
  * Most disclosed money is classified "Other Receipt", not "Donation". That category includes public election funding, investment income and fundraising proceeds. Receipt types are reported separately rather than lumped together as donations.
  * Only political party returns are counted. Associated entities, significant third parties and political campaigners file separately and are excluded, so this understates the total money in the system.

Lobbying:
  * Only third-party lobbyists — firms that lobby on behalf of paying clients — are required to register. People employed directly by a company, union or industry body to lobby for their own employer are not required to appear here at all, and are widely believed to do the majority of lobbying. Every figure on this page is a floor, not a total.
  * The register records no meetings. There is no federal requirement for ministers to publish their diaries, unlike in New South Wales and Queensland, so who was lobbied, by whom and about what is not public information.
  * A registration means a firm may lobby on a client's behalf. It is not evidence that any lobbying occurred, nor that it was improper.
  * Prior government roles are self-declared by the lobbyist. Categories here are grouped from free text and may not match a person's full history.
