Australia is divided into 150 federal electorates, each returning one member to the House of Representatives. Enter a suburb, postcode or electorate name to find yours, who holds it, and how safely.
Suburb names are more precise than postcodes.
Why a postcode can have several answers
Electorates are drawn to hold roughly equal numbers of voters, and they pay no attention to postal boundaries. Of 2,641 postcodes, 513 cover residents in more than one electorate. Suburbs are far tidier: only 471 of 15,334 are split.
Where an area is split, every electorate it covers is shown, ranked by how many of that area’s residents live in each. A tool that picked one and showed it alone would be confidently wrong about one postcode in five.
Where this comes from
Built by joining the ABS’s Mesh Block allocation files — the smallest unit the Census publishes — so that each suburb and postcode can be weighted by the number of people actually living in each electorate it covers. Boundaries are CED_2025. Divisions as at the 2025 federal election, which is what the sitting Parliament was elected on. Redistributions determined since do not take effect until the next general election.
- ABS divisions are a Mesh Block approximation of the AEC's legal boundaries, which follow property lines. Addresses near a boundary can fall in a different division. The AEC is the authority for enrolment.
- Shares are of an area's 2021 Census population, not of its voters. Population and enrolment are not the same thing.
- Postcodes that exist only for PO boxes have no residential population and are absent entirely — they return no result rather than a nearest guess.
- An area with no Census population has an undefined share, reported as null rather than 0%.
- An area often clips part of a neighbouring division where nobody lives. Those divisions are listed with 0 residents rather than dropped, because the area really does extend into them.
