Privacy

Two values, both in your browser’s local storage, both set only when you change a setting yourself:

• plainpolitics.theme — whether you chose light or dark. Without it the site follows your operating system setting.
• plainpolitics.cvd — whether you turned on the colour-blind-safe chart palette.

Neither is a cookie, neither is ever sent to a server, and clearing your browser storage removes both. The site sets no cookies at all.

Everything on the page comes from this domain, with one exception: a small analytics script from static.cloudflareinsights.com, described below. There is no advertising, there are no tracking pixels, no embedded video and no social widgets.

The typefaces are downloaded once when the site is built and served from this domain, so opening a page does not tell Google you did. Charts are drawn in your browser from data files served from here.

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records that a page was opened, which page it was, which site you followed a link from if any, the country the request came from, your browser and operating system, and how long the page took to load.

It sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device — the two values listed above remain the only things this site stores. Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint individual visitors and does not track anyone across other sites. What it produces is a count of how often each page is read, which is what decides where effort goes next.

Any content blocker stops it, and the site works identically without it.

The site is static files on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare records the requests it serves — the page requested, the time, your IP address, and the browser and country it came from — to deliver pages and to absorb attacks. That happens at their servers, not through anything embedded in the page, so it cannot be turned off from here, and no consent banner would change it.

Those records show which pages are read, not who read them. They are not combined with anything else, not used to build a profile, and not sold or shared. Cloudflare’s handling of both these logs and the analytics above is governed by their own privacy policy.

Every figure on this site links to the source it came from — the AEC, the IPEA, a state electoral commission, a pollster, a news publication. Following one takes you to a site with its own privacy practices, which are nothing to do with this one. Nothing about your visit is passed along when you go.

If you write to [email protected] — to report a mistake or ask about the data — your message is kept for as long as it takes to deal with it, and it is not added to any list. There is no list.

The published datasets are ordinary files on this domain. Downloading one needs no account and is recorded no differently from reading a page.

This page describes what the site does today. It is specific on purpose: if a script, an embed or an analytics tool is ever added, this page is wrong until it is updated, which is a harder thing to leave undone than a vague policy that would still technically cover it.
